MARY STEIGER

Mary started in the kitchen early, and by the age of five knew her destiny was to nurture and cherish those around her through her passion for food. She spent her young years creating and preparing meals for her family dreaming of a career in the culinary arts field. At age 26 Mary’s dream became a reality as she attended the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and graduated valedictorian of her class.

Combining her love of cooking and travel, upon her graduation Mary worked in several fine dining venues with scenic locales, including her first job at L’Auberge in Sedona where she gained experience in all stations of fine food preparation. It became apparent that pastry was her first love and her next employment was in Alaska, baking at Denali Park. Mary then used her skills as a pastry chef to open and manage several large retail bakeries before finding her way back home to Tucson.

In 2011 Mary achieved her lifelong goal and opened her own bakery/bistro, catering to the gluten free population of Southern Arizona. She has greatly influenced the face of Tucson dining with her commitment to providing gourmet meals and baked goods to the ever growing population who must avoid gluten in their diets.

More than designing and preparing gluten free gastronomic delights, Mary has created a warm, safe and caring atmosphere in her bakery/bistro which is Southern Arizona’s only dedicated and certified gluten free facility, where she nourishes the spirit in addition to feeding the body.

Mary is active in many fund raising and charitable events in Tucson, including SAACA culinary events, Puttin’ on the Dog, Boys and Girls Club, Nourish, Autism Society, and Empty Bowls, to name a few. Giving back to the community is a top priority for Mary.
